“Lovyapa,” directed by Advait Chandan, aims to explore modern relationships through the lens of a romantic comedy but falls short of making a lasting impact. The film marks the theatrical debuts of Junaid Khan as Gaurav “Gucci” Sachdeva and Khushi Kapoor as Baani Sharma. The promising premise, which centers on a couple exchanging phones before marriage to test their trust, is marred by weak execution.
The film struggles to keep the audience engaged due to a lackluster screenplay, adapted from the 2022 Tamil film “Love Today.” Unlike the original, which had charm and emotional depth, “Lovyapa” comes off as a forced and uninspired remake. The humor rarely hits the mark, and the emotional moments fail to resonate, making it hard to connect with the characters or their struggles.
Junaid Khan’s portrayal of Gaurav is earnest but lacks the depth and screen presence required to carry a film of this nature.
