India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury scare on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth and final Test against Australia on Saturday.
India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury shock on day two of the fifth and final Test against Australia on Saturday. The star pacer felt discomfort after bowling just one over after lunch at the Sydney Cricket Ground and was rushed to a local hospital for examination. Speaking at the post-match press conference on day two, pacer Prasidh Krishna revealed that Bumrah was suffering from back spasms, making him a major doubt for day three.
Krishna also revealed that the team is waiting for an update from the medical staff on the star pacer’s availability.
“He had back spasms. He has been examined. The medical team is monitoring him. So, we will know once we get a call from the medical team,” Krishna told reporters here.
However, a Times of India report said Bumrah is “fine” to bat, adding that the team’s decision on his inclusion as a bowler would be based on his condition in the morning.
Bumrah underwent a precautionary ultrasound after he had back spasms, but there is nothing seriously wrong with him as of now. He should be fine for batting, but as for bowling, the final decision will be taken depending on how he feels in the morning. So, let’s wait and see. “The medical team is closely monitoring him,” the report said.
In Bumrah’s absence, Prasidh Krishna (3-42), Mohammed Siraj (3-51), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2-32) filled the void and Australia retired from the field after losing 1-9. It started again.

Rishabh Pant hit a quick fifty to help India extend their lead by four runs in the first innings.
Pant showed his enthusiasm by hitting a six off his first ball and reached fifty in just the 29th ball with another big drive over the ropes.
With Australia leading the series 2-1, India needs a win at the Sydney Cricket Ground to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
