Tragic Road Accident in Bengaluru: Tech Firm CEO and Family Killed in Collision with Truck
A devastating road accident on the outskirts of Bengaluru claimed the lives of six people, including the CEO of a prominent software company, his wife, two children, and relatives. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a container truck collided with the Volvo XC90 car they were traveling in, resulting in an instant and horrific loss of life.
Victims and the Incident: Chandram Yegapagol, the 46-year-old managing director and CEO of IAST Software Solutions, along with his wife Gaurabai (40), children Gyaan (16) and Deeksha (10), sister-in-law Vijayalakshmi (35), and niece Arya (6), were on their way from Bengaluru to their native Morbagi village in Maharashtra. They were planning to visit Yegapagol’s ailing father and celebrate the Christmas holidays. The family was traveling in their recently purchased Volvo XC90 B5 Mild Hybrid Ultra when tragedy struck.
The Accident: The crash occurred near Nelamangala, just a few kilometers from Begur, on the national highway around 11 am. According to preliminary investigations by the police, the Eicher truck, which was carrying several tonnes of aluminum pillars, swerved into the opposite lane after the driver attempted to avoid a collision with another vehicle. The truck lost control, crossed over the median, and fell on the Volvo, killing everyone in the car instantly. A tempo was also hit by the truck but with minimal damage.
A CCTV camera nearby captured the horrifying moment when the truck crashed into the Volvo, which has been forwarded to the police for further analysis. Police reports indicate that the collision happened in a fraction of a second.

Investigation and Aftermath: The truck driver survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment. A criminal case has been filed against him, and Bengaluru Rural SP CK Baba has appointed DySP (Nelamangala) to head the investigation into the incident. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Nelamangala government hospital, where they were declared dead.
The Volvo XC90: The victims were traveling in a Volvo XC90 B5 Mild Hybrid Ultra, a luxury vehicle that Yegapagol had purchased just two months prior. The family, originally from Vijayapura, Karnataka, had been looking forward to their trip, but the fateful collision has left their loved ones in mourning.
Reactions and Condolences: The news of the tragic accident has shocked the community, with reactions pouring in from across the country. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed his condolences on social media, stating, “I pray to God for those who lost their lives in this unfortunate accident, may their souls rest in peace.”
This heartbreaking incident highlights the growing concerns around road safety, especially on busy highways, and the need for improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their grieving families.

In the wake of the accident, where a truck carrying a large cargo container overturned, vehicular traffic was affected on National Highway 48, which resulted in a traffic jam for around 3 km on National Highway 4. After the incident, Bengaluru District Police issued a traffic advisory about ‘slow-moving traffic’ on the Bengaluru-Tumkur national highway.
“Slow-moving traffic in Bengaluru-Tumkur national highway due to vehicle accidents between canter and car near Beguru in Nelmangla. Kindly co-operate,” the post on X reads.
This incident has left the city in shock, and many people are expressing their condolences for the loss of such a talented individual and his family. The tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and caution when driving on busy highways.
