Filmmaker Rahi Anil Barve is deeply moved as his iconic mythological horror film Tumbbad is set for a re-release. First hitting theaters in 2018, the film received widespread critical acclaim, developed a loyal cult following, and became an unexpected success. Now, years later, Barve has opened up by sharing two personal diary entries from 2011 and 2012, amounting to nearly 4,000 words, in which he reflects on the challenging 15-year journey that went into making Tumbbad a reality.

Presented by Eros Now and starring Sohum Shah, Tumbbad was directed by Barve, with Anand Gandhi serving as the creative director and Adesh Prasad as co-director.
The screenplay was crafted by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi, while the film was produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah. The movie also features Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date-Kelkar. Rahi’s first diary entry dates back to October 25, 2011, and the second is from February 2, 2012. Barve explained that his intention in sharing these entries publicly was to inspire young filmmakers who aspire to create their own movies.

The first diary entry recounts how Barve was introduced to a "banal horror" story by Narayan Dharap, which a friend narrated to him while they were camping in the forests of Nagzira in 1993. Although he can't pinpoint the exact moment when he decided to turn it into a film, Barve shared that his first draft and storyboard began taking shape around 1996/97.
